FedEx Delivers Holiday Cheer to Troops and Military Families
Posted on: Wednesday, 29 November 2006, 09:00 CST
FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation today kicked off their "Trees for Troops" program with the delivery of holiday trees to activated service members and their families stationed at Travis Air Force Base. Trees for Troops is a joint program that delivers holiday spirit to U.S. troops and military families around the world.
For the second year, tree growers, retailers and FedEx will be donating and delivering holiday trees to troops and military families in the U.S. and overseas. The trees were donated by members of the National Christmas Tree Association. FedEx Express and FedEx Freight donated transportation and logistical services to the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation, the philanthropic branch of the National Christmas Tree Association.
"During a time of year when friends and family gather with loved ones, we must also remember the service men and women stationed overseas this holiday season," said Douglas G. Duncan, president and chief executive officer, FedEx Freight. "With this small gesture, we want to extend a special thank you to our brave troops and their families."
Trees for Troops donated 4,300 trees to troops and military families in the U.S. and overseas in 2005, its first year. In the coming weeks, FedEx Express and FedEx Freight will again donate all shipping and logistical services to collect and deliver more than 11,000 trees to activated service members and their families at 25 military bases.
In addition to domestic deliveries, an international shipment departed from the FedEx Express hub in Indianapolis, Ind., on Nov. 14 for service members stationed abroad.
Trees for Troops is a part of FedEx Special Delivery, a nationwide program that provides transportation and logistical assistance for community and non-profit organizations.
