Telvent's Technology to Be Utilized on the Mexico City Metro System
Posted on: Thursday, 30 November 2006, 09:01 CST
Telvent GIT S.A. (NASDAQ: TLVT), the Global RealTime IT Company, announced today that it has signed several contracts with the operator of the Mexico City Federal District's metro system. Under the contracts, which have a combined value of approximately two million euros, Telvent will upgrade control systems for the metro's electricity infrastructure, and supply transport ticketing based on contact-free technology.
Mexico City's metro system currently carries more than a million passengers per day and Telvent's technology will help reduce the number of incidents that arise as a consequence of outages. The upgrade of the metro system infrastructure is designed to control the distribution of the electricity supply to lines 1, 2 and 3, as well as the lighting, power and traction circuits. Telvent will supply an integrated control, protection and metering system to enable electric infrastructure monitoring and, if necessary, remote operation from the control center.
Telvent will also supply a million contact-free smart cards, the use of which will allow the future integration of fares charged by the city's different public transport operators. In addition, the use of contact-free technology reduces maintenance costs, allows the acquisition of statistical information to enhance service, and can be used as a cash card.
"We are very happy to have signed our first contract with Mexico City's metro operator and to contribute value to its business through the upgrading of its transport technology systems," said Telvent's chairman and chief executive officer, Manuel Sanchez Ortega.
Telvent has been permanently established in Mexico since 1990, developing control and information system projects in the Energy, Traffic, Transport, and Environment segments. In the Transport segment, Telvent recently signed contracts for the partial renovation of the Mexico City Federal District's light train network access control system and to upgrade the Monterrey metro system's technology systems.
Telvent (NASDAQ: TLVT), the Global RealTime IT Company, specializes in high value add solutions and services in four industry segments (Energy, Traffic, Transport and Environment). Its technology allows high performing companies to make real-time business decisions using data acquisition, control, and advanced operational applications, providing secure actionable information delivery to the enterprise.(www.telvent.com).
