SEPTA Broad Street Line 'Sports Express' Service Marches to Army-Navy Football Game

Posted on: Thursday, 30 November 2006, 12:01 CST

PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- SEPTA will operate special Broad Street Line "Sports Express" trains for riders traveling to the 107th Annual Army-Navy football game scheduled for Saturday, December 2, at Lincoln Financial Field.

For the scheduled 2:40 p.m. kickoff, Broad Street Line Sport Express service will operate about every 10 to 15 minutes from 6:35 a.m. until 11:50 a.m. from the Fern Rock Transportation Center to the Pattison Station, which will be decorated in honor of the football squads.

The Broad Street Line is the best route to the action for fans as riders will avoid the expected traffic jams in the area of the South Philadelphia Sports Complex as the Black Knights of Army and the Midshipmen of Navy resume their heated rivalry on the gridiron in Philadelphia for the 80th time. Last year, more than 12,500 fans used Broad Street Line service to travel to the annual game.

Broad Street Line Sports Express trains stop only at Olney Transportation Center, Erie, Girard, Spring Garden, Race-Vine, City Hall and Walnut-Locust Stations en route to Pattison Station. Sports Express trains take about eight minutes to travel from City Hall to the South Philadelphia Sports Complex. In addition, local Broad Street Line service will operate about every eight minutes throughout the day. Local Broad Street Line trains take only about 11 minutes to travel from City Hall to the Sports Complex.

To make the service more convenient and comfortable for riders, SEPTA will open the lower level platform at Pattison Station for southbound and northbound service throughout the day.

The SEPTA Broad Street Line is also the premier route to other sporting events scheduled at the Sports Complex this weekend including the Philadelphia KiXX/California Cougars indoor soccer game at the Wachovia Spectrum at 7 p.m. as well as the Philadelphia Flyers/New Jersey Devils hockey game at the Wachovia Center at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 2. On Sunday, December 3 the Philadelphia Phantoms hockey team will face-off against the Manitoba Moose at the Spectrum at 5:05 p.m. while the Philadelphia 76ers tip-off against the Minnesota Timberwolves at 6 p.m. at the Wachovia Center.
