Russian Railways, Kazakhstan Railways Agree Transit Container Partnership

Russian Railways and Kazakhstan Railways have signed an agreement to work on the joint development of transit container shipments.
The agreement between the two companies aims to improve foreign trade, ensure optimal conditions for transit shipments on international routes and develop transport infrastructure and technology.
Russian Railways and Kazakhstan Railways are to increase cooperation on developing container traffic between China and Europe via Russia and Kazakhstan through introducing measures to attract freight to rail and increase transit shipments.
The railway administrations of both countries will also develop the appropriate infrastructure, especially at international junctions. In addition, other governmental organizations from both countries will be involved in improving customs and border controls.
By the end of January 2007, Russian Railways and Kazakhstan Railways will have established a joint working group which will set out the optimal transit routes and analyze the probable volumes and structure of the future freight shipments between China and Europe.
