Pfizer Has a Broad Portfolio, With Strengths in the Areas of Cardiovascular Disease, Central Nervous System Disorders, Inflammatory Disease and Metabolic Disorders - Pfizer: Prospects To 2010

Posted on: Tuesday, 19 December 2006, 09:00 CST

Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c47380) has announced the addition of Pfizer: Prospects to 2010 from Espicom Business Intelligence to their offering.

Pharmaceutical company intelligence reports provide a full review of the company's activities together with five-year sales forecasts for its key products. The company's financial performance is covered in-depth, from its latest results to a complete analysis of its latest full fiscal year and an outlook for the future. A section on company strategy covers mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, key agreements, products and R&D. An overview of key products and R&D is followed by a comprehensive review of the company's product portfolio and research and development pipeline by therapeutic area. In addition, supplementary appendices provide more in-depth information on financials, agreements and corporate events.

Pfizer is the world's largest ethical pharmaceutical company, its main areas in human health being cardiovascular, central nervous system disorders and infectious diseases. This report provides a full review of the company's activities together with sales forecasts for key products to 2010.

Headquartered in New York, Pfizer has been the world's largest research-based Pharmaceutical Company since it stole Merck & Co's crown in 1998. The subsequent acquisition of Warner-Lambert (and with it Agouron) in June 2000 and the merger with Pharmacia in April 2003 (which included the former Monsanto division, GD Searle) cemented this position and it looks unlikely to be toppled in the near future.

Pfizer has a broad portfolio, with strengths in the areas of cardiovascular disease, central nervous system disorders, inflammatory disease, metabolic disorders, infectious diseases and oncology.

Employing around 115,000 people worldwide, it has more than 100 overseas subsidiaries and operations in around 150 countries.

Pfizer believes it has one of the broadest product portfolios of all the major pharmaceutical companies. In 2004, Pfizer set an industry record with ten of its products (including Celebrex) generating revenues of more than US$1 billion each; 2005 saw a decline in sales of Neurontin and the voluntary withdrawal of Bextra, reducing this total to eight.

During 2005, Pfizer filed an NDA with the FDA for marketing approval of Exubera (inhaled insulin) and it was finally approved in the US in January 2006. Pfizer submitted a revised label to the FDA for the add-on epilepsy indication for Lyrica, which was approved in 2004 for the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy and post-herpetic neuralgia.

Pfizer also submitted several important sNDAs for new indications for existing products including the novel antibiotic, Zyvox, and the antifungal, Vfend. Pfizer's medicine depo-subQ provera 104 received FDA approval for contraception and endometriosis.
