Denver Airport Resumes Flights

Denver International Airport resumed flights Friday after a blizzard forced a two-day pause in air travel to and from the hub.

As of noon Friday, two runways were in service, and airport officials said they hoped to have two more in operation before the end of the day as crews worked to clear the heavy snow, the Denver Post reported Friday.

The first two planes to leave the airport were a Frontier flight bound for Atlanta and another Frontier flight headed for Cancun, the Rocky Mountain News reported.

More than 2,000 United Airlines flights were canceled as a result of the blizzard and about 659 Frontier Airlines flights were grounded, the Post reported.

DIA spokesman Joe Hodas said Frontier flights leaving Saturday and Sunday, which were originally booked to about 90 percent capacity, would be running at full capacity.

Meanwhile, Regional Transportation District buses and light rail in Denver were expected to resume operations Friday but on a reduced schedule, the Rocky Mountain News reported. Transit will operate normally Saturday and Sunday, with only the Longmont Call-n-Ride and a reduced number of regional buses operating on Christmas Day.
