3:20 P.M. — Workers Show Up Late Today

Jan. 2–Not unexpectedly, some Boise area businesses reported a noticeable increase in the number of late-arriving employees today following Boise State University’s heart-stopping victory Monday night.
“But it was an effective lateness, because there wasn’t much business getting done for the first hour or so anyway. Everybody was talking about the game,” said Billy Knorpp, owner of RVP Systems, a Boise cash register company.
At TenXsys Inc., an Eagle engineering firm, the company’s flex-schedule allows some employees to begin their work day as early as 6 a.m. People began arriving about 9 a.m.
Nobody was going to get in trouble, however, since president and CEO Frank Riskey was among the stragglers.
“I was so keyed up after the game that I couldn’t sleep for a couple of hours,” said Riskey, who arrived about two hours late. “It’s a fair statement to say that everybody was late this morning.”
Not everybody saw an increase in tardiness, though. Idaho Power said all of the more than 500 employees at its Downtown Boise corporate headquarters were on time for work. Spokesman Dennis Lopez speculated that everybody wanted to get to work “just to talk about the game.”
