McCarran Visitor Tally Up
By Las Vegas Review-Journal
Jan. 4–If the lines at McCarran International Airport seemed longer than usual in November, it’s because they were.
Nearly 3.9 million people arrived and departed through the airport in November, a 7.3 percent increase from the same month in 2005.
Southwest was far and away the leading carrier at McCarran for the month, moving almost 1.3 million people in and out of the airport, up 10 percent from 2005. The next closest was America West, with 747,000 passengers, up 21 percent, followed by United with almost 255,000 passengers.
United and American, however, carried fewer passengers during the month than in November 2005. United was down 4.3 percent for the month, American was down 16 percent.
Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air moved nearly 120,000 people in and out of McCarran in November, up 49 percent from 2005.
The largest percentage increase for the month belonged to Spirit Airlines, which increased 192 percent over 2005. But the airline remained one of the smaller carriers at McCarran, taking just under 24,000 arrivals and departures in November.
The November count pushed year-to-date traffic at McCarran above 40 million passengers for the year. By the end of November 42.3 million people went through McCarran, up 4 percent from the same point in 2005.
