Oakland Airport Evacuated
January 5, 2007
OAKLAND, Calif. – Passengers were evacuated for about two hours from both terminals of Oakland International Airport Friday morning when a security breach forced the re-screening of all passengers.
The action was prompted by “somebody who breached a security checkpoint,” said Marilyn Sandifur, a spokeswoman for the Port of Oakland, which runs the airport. She did not have details on the violation.
Outbound flights were held on the ground while the re-screening and search for the individual took place, and a road that abuts the terminals was closed to vehicular traffic, Sandifur said.
