CVG Flights Down 30% After Delta Cutbacks
Cutbacks in service by Delta Air Lines sent Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport’s ranking among the nation’s airports down from the 14th busiest to the 23rd.
Takeoffs and landings fell 30.2 percent last year at Cincinnati/ Northern Kentucky, according to Federal Aviation Administration figures.
Takeoffs and landings declined to 345,758 in 2006, compared with 495,452 in 2005.
Delta, which filed for bankruptcy in September 2005, announced at the end that year plans to reduce service at the Hebron, Ky. airport by 26 percent.
Those cuts had a major impact on Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky because Delta and its subsidiary Comair operate 80 percent of flights there.
The FAA reported that nation’s busiest airport was Hartsfield- Jackson Atlanta International with 976,307 flights.
Chicago O’Hare International Airport was second busiest, with 958,643 flights and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport was third, with 702,713 flights.
