SEATTLE, Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- After installing 3 shipsets of 737-800 Aviation Partner Boeing patented* Blended Winglet Systems, back in 2002, Turkish Airlines has come back with an order for 24 additional shipsets on new 737-800s delivered from Boeing. Installations will be accomplished in-house at Turkish Technic, a wholly owned subsidiary of Turkish Airlines at Sabiha Gokcen International airport, Istanbul.
"Turkish Airlines, a leading global carrier focusing on expanding its long distance network, significantly increases its commitment to Blended Winglet Technology with this important re-order," says Aviation Partners Boeing CEO John Reimers. "Our Visible Technology will significantly boost capabilities and fuel efficiency of Turkish Airline's new fleet of 24 737-800s"
Fuel savings, a direct result of Blended Winglet Technology, will be over 100,000 gallons (380,000 liters) per aircraft per year with forecast payback on investment of less than 3 years. When this order completes, Turkey's national flag carrier will save more than 2.7 million gallons (10.26 million liters) of fuel, fleet wide, each and every year.
"Rising fuel prices, plus the fact that Blended Winglets improve residual aircraft value, makes the Performance Upgrade option absolutely compelling to Turkish Airlines," says Aviation Partners Boeing Sales Director Troy Brekken. "This order will also showcase installation capabilities of Turkish Technic's new heavy maintenance facility -- an aviation center of excellence with 3300 employees and almost 2 million square feet (200,000 square meters) of facilities."
Over 1500 Blended Winglet Shipsets are now in service with over 100 airlines in more than 40 countries on 6 continents. Currently, 65% of in- service fleet of 737-700s, and 57% of in-service 737-800s, are Blended Winglet Equipped. By 2010, with over 4500 airliners upgraded, Blended Winglet Technology will have saved commercial airlines over 2 billion gallons of fuel.
"The most reliable way to predict the future is to invent it," says Aviation Partners Boeing Chairman Joe Clark.
