Parks Board Tables Roofing Bids

Jan. 10–Seymour Parks and Recreation Board decided to table estimates to replace the Community Center roof from two local roofing companies until its next meeting.
The board received bids from Abraham Roofing and Royalty Roofing of Seymour.
Abraham offered a bid of $11,894 with a 10-year labor warranty and a 15-year material warranty. Royalty made a bid of $16,305 with a 15-year labor warranty and a 15-year material warranty.
Jeff Vance, director of the parks department, told board members Royalty had completed patching work on a corner of the building last week that the board approved at its November meeting.
He also said the current roof of the building was put on in 1989 by Abraham Roofing.
The board decided to wait to see the results of the patching to make its decision. Vance said he had not heard of leaks after the weekend rains.
The board also heard a proposal from coaches Ron Schneider and Steve Mettert and Matt Wieneke of the Seymour Youth League for additional games by a traveling team to be played on Seymour fields on weekends from April 1 through June.
After discussion from board members and coaches, the coaches were told to schedule their games but also to encourage players to be part of the Seymour Youth League. A decision will be made later as to whether a fee for the fields will be enforced if any players are not part of Seymour Youth League.
“I want you to play, but you have to understand our first priority is to the youth league,” board member Jeff Richey said. “Youth league fields come first.”
Mettert said the 12-years-old and younger and 10-years-old and younger teams will have a 25-game season from April 1 through June and play only on Saturdays and Sundays.
A representative from American Ramp Co. was not present for the meeting after canceling late last week. Vance said he will try to reschedule the meeting between the company that constructs skate parks and the board members.
