ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc. , launched flight service at Daytona Beach International Airport today with a water salute from Volusia County Fire Services Station 17 and a press conference. On hand to celebrate the new service were the Volusia County Council, community leaders and NASCAR star Matt Kenseth — who waved the checkered flag as the inaugural AirTran Airways’ flight arrived.

“AirTran Airways is pleased to bring needed low-fare air service to the Daytona Beach community,” said Loral Blinde, AirTran Airways’ vice president of human resources. “With daily nonstop flights to our Atlanta hub, our customers will have access to more than 40 destinations across the country. Likewise, NASCAR enthusiasts will now have direct access to the crown jewel of racing facilities and beach-combers can soak up the sun on one of the finest stretches of sand in Florida, with convenient and reliable service that is currently unmatched at Daytona Beach International.” He added, “We pride ourselves on making air travel easy, affordable and enjoyable with free XM Satellite Radio at every seat, an award-winning frequent flyer program and Business Class seating, plus the excellent customer service provided by our friendly Crew Members. We know this service will be a roaring success for Daytona residents and visitors alike.”

“This is great news for the Daytona Beach International Airport, AirTran Airways and all of our commuters and business travelers in Volusia County who now have access to convenient, low fare service,” stated Representative John L. Mica (R-FL), the Republican leader of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. “AirTran Airways’ flight connections to and from Atlanta and Baltimore open up a world of travel opportunities for East Central Florida’s flying public.”

“This new service is the result of ongoing work, cooperation and mutual support between AirTran Airways, Volusia County/Daytona Beach International Airport and Volusia’s three tourism advertising authorities,” said Volusia County Council Chair Frank Bruno. “This is very significant. AirTran Airways is such a good fit for our airport. AirTran Airways is the first major low-fare carrier at Daytona Beach International Airport. We look forward to a long and successful partnership with them.”
