Renesas Technology, the second-largest Japanese chip maker, said it will set up a venture with Powerchip Semiconductor of Japan to design memory chips used in consumer electronics and telecommunications equipment.
Powerchip will own 65 percent of the venture, while Renesas will hold the remaining 35 percent, Renesas said. The companies did not provide financial details for the venture, named Vantel, which will be set up in February.
