Kiev, 16 January: Ukraine now has an opportunity to handle greater amounts of Russian oil, Ukrainian Minister of Fuel and Energy Yuriy Boyko said here on Tuesday [16 January], commenting on the results of his talks in Moscow on the increase of Russian oil transit by the territory of Ukraine.

“Ukraine, as Russia’s partner, fixed the parameters of the transit of energy carriers for two years to come. The increase of the oil transit makes us more confident of the morrow,” Boyko stressed. According to his information, “agreements have been reached with Russia, which have been recorded on the level of contracts between economic entities – Ukrtransnafta, Transneft and TNK-BP”.

“So far as oil is concerned, we agreed on the increase of oil transit by 5m tonnes a year, which is equal to some 10 per cent of the contracts signed. As a result of the implementation of the agreements on the increase of Russian oil transit Ukraine will receive additionally some 100m hryvnyas (20m dollars) of profits a year. We are completing the talks on gas. We expect to agree on the increase of gas transit by 3 to 5 per cent,” Boyko said.
