Jan. 18–GRAND PRAIRIE _ An Alvarado man was being treated for a broken neck Thursday following an accident Wednesday that killed one woman and injured four others, police said.

Juan Payan, 33, of Alvarado, was in serious condition at Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital, police said. He was the driver of a pickup truck that wrecked at about 7:40 p.m. Wednesday when it hit an icy patch on the Walnut Creek Bridge along northbound Texas 360.

The truck slid off the road and flipped, killing Enedina Chavez, 64, a resident of Chihuahua, Mexico, who was ejected from the truck. It rolled over on her and she died at the scene at about 8 p.m., police said.

It was the third fatal traffic accident in Grand Prairie in 2007, police said.

Four others were treated at area hospitals for minor injuries in the wreck.

Erika Loya, 24, Alvarado, was treated and released at Harris. Three others were treated and released from Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, including: Marisola Payan, 3; Emilia Ramirez, 9; and 1-year-old Manuel Payan.

Police said the investigation into this wreck was continuing, but the driver may face charges related to some of the children not being seatbelted.
