Posted on: Friday, 19 January 2007, 12:00 CST

Menzies Aviation, a supplier of ground handling services to the aviation industry, has acquired Gearey's Aircraft Services, a provider of cargo handling services at Calgary International Airport.

Gearey's, previously a private, family-held business which commenced operations in warehouse handling nine years ago, counts Westjet, America West and Continental among its major customers.

Menzies said the acquisition is in line with the company's plans for strategic expansion, and will complement the existing Menzies business in Calgary.

Commenting on the acquisition, Craig Smyth, Menzies Aviation, managing director said: "The acquisition of Gearey's Aircraft Services expands our successful Canadian operations and service offering, and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to growing our business in North America."

Menzies Aviation is an independent supplier of ground handling services to the aviation market, providing passenger, ramp and cargo services for airlines. The division employs some 12,000 people across the world, at 107 airports in 24 countries and servicing more than 500 aviation customers.
