Jan. 19–MILFORD — Suzanne Manning, publisher of Milford Living magazine, has been named Businessperson of the Year by the Milford Chamber of Commerce.

The award came as a shock to Manning.

“There are so many other worthy people in the city who do so much for the community,” she said, adding that the quarterly lifestyle guide is now in its fourth year of publication. “The magazine has afforded me the opportunity to be involved with the community on several levels. I’m very honored by the award.”

Manning and nine other members of the business community will receive awards on Jan. 31 during the chamber’s 52nd Awards of Distinction ceremony, to be held at the Oak Lane Country Club, 1027 Racebrook Road, Woodbridge.

“There are a lot of people out there who do a lot of good things for the city and it’s important that they be recognized,” said Tracy O’Brien, first vice-chairman of the chamber board of directors.

She added that Manning’s publication has helped to showcase the city and all it has to offer.

“There are a lot of people who only drive through the city on the Boston Post Road that don’t know what Milford is all about,” she said. “The magazine brings the history and flavor of the city not only to our residents but others as well.”

Other members of the business community to be honored during the ceremony include attorney Robert Kapusta, the chairman of the city’s Economic Development Commission, who will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.

“I’m sure some of it is attributed to my longevity, but I’ve also been very active in the city over the years,” Kapusta said. “I enjoy being active in the community because the city has given so much to me over the years.”

Kapusta has also served over the years at the city’s attorney and recently completed his second term as president of the Milford Bar Association.

Tessa Marquis and Michael Brown, partners in Sage Milford Properties LLC and the New Standard Institute, are receiving the Economic Development Award for their efforts in refurbishing a once-derelict building on Broad Street.

“We are very appreciative that our hard work in renovating the building has been recognized,” Marquis said. “The continued improvement of the Milford downtown area is of prime importance to the growth of the city.”
