Malaysia and Singapore Want to Open Routes International Traveler / Update: KUALA LUMPUR
The Malaysian government will meet the Singapore authorities by the end of March to discuss easing air route restrictions, which may increase competition for Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines. The countries haven’t expanded in more than two decades an agreement that includes the flight path between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Singapore Airlines and Malaysia Airlines currently dominate the route.
Greater access between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur might increase tourism, benefiting both economies and fueling traffic at their airports. Visitors from Singapore account for about half of the monthly arrivals in Malaysia, according to immigration data from Malaysia.
