Telvent to Upgrade the Weather Observation Systems at Major Venezuelan Airports

Posted on: Thursday, 25 January 2007, 09:00 CST

Telvent GIT S.A. (NASDAQ: TLVT), the Global RealTime IT company, announced today that it has signed a contract with the Venezuelan Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources to supply weather observation systems for eleven of the country's airports. The contract, for more than 2.5 million euros, is part of the Venezuelan government's upgrading program for the National Hydro-meteorological Forecasting System.

By utilizing Telvent's air navigation aid systems, the airports will have critical information on runway climatic and aeronautical conditions, enhancing aircraft landing and takeoff security. Data, including ground temperature and humidity, wind speed pressure and rainfall, are measured by equipment installed on the runway, then processed and continuously transmitted to control centers, facilitating decision making in aircraft operations. The Telvent technology will be installed at Barcelona, Barquisimeto, Maracaibo, Porlamar, Puerto Ordaz, Maiquetia, Valencia, El Vigia, Charallave, San Cristobal airports and Libertador air base.

According to Telvent's chairman and chief executive officer Manuel Sanchez Ortega, "This project, together with the recent establishment of our subsidiary company, Telvent Venezuela, confirms our commitment to expanding our operations in the country, while further consolidating our presence in South America."

The Telvent technology being implemented at these airports, in addition to enabling the upgrading of the hydro-meteorological forecasting systems demanded by the Venezuelan government, also meets the data quality and precision standards established by the World Meteorology Organization (WMO), the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU-T).

Telvent is currently executing a similar project for five airports in Argentina, as well as upgrading aeronautical meteorological equipment at forty airports and air bases throughout Spain. The Company has supplied similar systems for numerous other European airports and supplied meteorological information systems for airports in Latin America, Africa, Australia, and the Middle East.

Telvent (NASDAQ: TLVT), the Global RealTime IT Company, specializes in high value add solutions and services in four industry segments (Energy, Traffic, Transport and Environment). Its technology allows high performing companies to make real-time business decisions using data acquisition, control, and advanced operational applications, providing secure actionable information delivery to the enterprise.
