Three wind turbines dominate the horizon at the White Hill wind farm near Mossburn. The turbines will not generate electricity until late April or May when all 29 have been erected and connected to the national grid. An open day is being held by generator Meridian Energy at the site on Sunday, February 4. A full day’s entertainment is being provided in Mossburn for the event, which will cater for up to 5000 people. Profits raised from the day will be added to the Northern Southland Development fund, which is administered by the Southland District Council. The White Hill wind farm site is only accessible by bus and those wishing to go need to register with Meridian Energy.
