Changes To Mst Bus Routes Begin Saturday

Jan. 26–Changes to local and regional bus services by Monterey-Salinas Transit will begin Saturday, said transit officials.

The changes include:

–Marina Transit Station: Because of impending construction of the Marina Transit Exchange at Reservation and Deforest roads, Lines 16, 20 and 27 will be rerouted through Marina on Palm and Carmel avenues. Transfers will take place at the Seacrest Avenue location until construction is complete in the fall.

–DART: DART now operates seven days a week, with new service added Sunday 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The DART zone now includes Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, Carmel Hills Care Center, Deer Forest Drive, Via Isola and Josselyn Canyon Road in Monterey. It has eliminated areas north of Broadway in Seaside.

–1 Pacific Grove: Now ends in downtown Pacific Grove with downtown Monterey routing now through the tunnel instead of Pacific Street/Calle Principal in Monterey.

–1 Asilomar-Lover’s Point Express: New line operates hourly between downtown Monterey and Asilomar/Lovers Point seven days a week with service to The Blind & Visually Impaired Center in Pacific Grove and Pacific Street/Calle Principal in Monterey.

–2 Pacific Grove: Now travels on Lighthouse Avenue in New Monterey instead of Wave Street with downtown Monterey routing through the tunnel instead of Pacific Street/Calle Principal. Frequency is now every 60 minutes throughout the day.

–2 Pebble Beach Express: First morning trip begins in Salinas and stops at Marina Transit Exchange and Edgewater Transit Exchange to connect with the first morning trip on Line 55 San Jose Express.

–4 Carmel Rancho: Service discontinued between downtown Monterey and 6th & Mission in Carmel village. Use Lines 5 and 11 instead. All stops currently served by Lines 4 & 5 between 6th & Mission and Carmel Rancho will be served by the new Line 4 Carmel Rancho. Operates every 30 minutes between 6th & Mission in downtown Carmel and Carmel Rancho and at new stops at Crossroads Shopping Center and Barnyard Shopping Village.

–5 Carmel: Service between 6th & Mission in Carmel village and Carmel Rancho is replaced by Line 4 Carmel Rancho. Service to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula is discontinued and is now served by DART.

–6 Edgewater-Ryan Ranch: NEW line operating between Edgewater Transit Exchange and Ryan Ranch Business Park during morning and afternoon commute times serving parts of Seaside, Del Rey Oaks, MST Administrative offices and CTB/McGraw-Hill.

–9 Fremont-Hilby: No service to Monterey Peninsula College on Via Lavandera on weekends and holidays.

–10 Fremont-Ord Grove: No service to Monterey Peninsula College on Via Lavandera on weekends and holidays.

–11 Edgewater-Carmel: Expanded schedule to operate hourly throughout the day with new service to Del Monte Shopping Center.

–16 & 17 Edgewater-Marina: Portions of the routes for Lines 16 & 17 are discontinued, including service to Coe Avenue, Gen. Jim Moore Boulevard south of Gigling Rd., CSUMB University Center, Hayes Department of Defense building and the following streets: Bayer, Bostick, Cardoza, Abdy, Paul Davis, Marina Greens and portions of Reindollar. Other areas of Marina currently served by Lines 16 & 17 are now served by Line 27.

–16 Monterey-Marina: NEW line offering expanded hourly service between Marina (including Wal-Mart), Preston Park, CSUMB, VA Clinic, Edgewater Transit Exchange and downtown Monterey until 11:00 p.m. New service to Schoonover Park neighborhood.

–20 Monterey-Salinas via Marina: On-request evening service to Preston Park neighborhood is replaced by regularly scheduled evening service on the NEW Line 16.

–22 Big Sur: New weekend-only service during off-season with two round trips Saturdays and Sundays, weather permitting. Daily operations will resume Memorial Day weekend with three round trips every day until Labor Day.

–24 Carmel Valley-Grapevine Express: Service expands to daily operation of the Grapevine Express route with better connections to and from other transit lines in downtown Monterey.
