Two bus crashes kill 20 in Peru

LIMA, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) — At least 20 people were killed and a dozen injured on Sunday in two bus crashes in northern Peru, the Peru National Police said.

The first accident occurred on a road linking the Palta and Sullan towns, 1,020 km north of capital Lima in Piura province, when a bus hit a car, killing 10 and injuring four.

In another accident, 10 people were killed and six injured on the Juanjai-Lima road in the Amazon province of San Martin, 1,000 km north of Lima, when an inter-city bus from the Huamanaga bus company overturned on a curve.

The high rate of road accidents in inner Peru is blamed on the poor state of the roads, obsolete auto fleets and poor driver training.
