Seven Injured When Bus Hits House in Turlock

Jan. 29–A Dodge Durango hit a school bus loaded with 20 Turlock Junior High School students this morning, sending the bus into a Castleview Drive home in east Turlock.
The bus pulled the intersection at Castlewood and Quincy Road, eastbound on Castlewood, when the Durango, which witnesses said was speeding, struck the bus just behind the front passenger-side wheel. The impact sent the bus through a stop sign and fire hydrant and into the front bedroom of a corner-lot Castlewood home.
Seven of the children on the bus were injured, with two transported to Emanuel Medical Center, said Michelle Fagundes, transportation manager with Turlock Unified School District.
“Anyone who has kids on the bus has been notified,” she said.
The Durango driver was also transported to Emanuel with minor injuries, said California Highway Patrol Sgt. Jim Pang.
Whether the driver was under the influence and exactly how fast she was going were under investigation, he said.
Though the family was in the home when the bus struck, no one was injured.
