According to “Jordan Times”, Air Transport World, a monthly magazine covering the global airline industry, has selected Royal Jordanian as the winner of the Phoenix Award, presented to airlines that have gone through a major transformation. After years of losses, the national carrier changed its business model to focus on traffic within its home markets, helping it return to profitability while nearly doubling in size. Last year, Royal Jordanian won the Merit Award for the CAPA Airline Turnaround of the Year 2006 at the 3rd Annual Asia Pacific and Middle East Aviation Outlook Summit, held by the Center for Asia Pacific Aviation, CAPA. The company, which executed a strategy to modernize its fleet, expand the route network, develop services and IT systems, and restructure the airline, is also the first Arab carrier to join a global airline alliance. The Oneworld alliance brings together eight of the world’s biggest airlines, among them Cathay Pacific, British Airways, Quantas and American Airlines.
