US multi-retailer Target Corporation is set to open its first company-owned perishable food distribution center in Florida in summer 2008.
Target said that the distribution center, which is being constructed in Lake City, will be used to supply frozen, refrigerated and fresh foods to its stores in Southeast US. The facility will be operated in partnership with Supervalu, a US grocery chain.
Target said that as its food business grows, it plans to open more food distribution centers over the coming years.
In October 2003, Target partnered with Supervalu to open a dedicated facility to provide frozen, refrigerated and fresh items to Target stores around the US.
