Lanes Blocked on Collins Due to Fatal Wreck
By The Miami Herald
Feb. 1–Traffic is inching by this morning on Collins Avenue in front of Bal Harbour Shops due to a fatal accident, reported Margaret Garcia of the Florida Department of Transportation’s 511 traffic center.
At around 6:30 a.m. in the southbound direction a van hit a palm tree in front of the high-end open-air mall at 97th Street. The driver was killed.
One right lane was closed for some time as Bal Harbour Police investigated. Northbound lanes were getting by slowly because of onlooker delays.
Also today at 7 a.m., the City of Miami Beach began the temporary closure of Ocean Drive between Fifth and 15th Streets because of an increase in pedestrian traffic during Super Bowl weekend. The closure will be in place through the weekend until Monday morning.
