Kenya Airways joins alliance of top world’s airlines
NAIROBI, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) — Kenya’s national carrier, Kenya Airways, on Friday signed an agreement to join SkyTeam, a global alliance partnering ten top airlines.
Kenya Airways, which joined the SkyTeam along with Air Europa and Cope Airlines, has now been recognized as official Associate Airline status.
Speaking in Nairobi, officials said the agreement is a formal step in the alliance’s Associate process and outline the carriers’ commitment to meet the standards to be recognized as official Associate Airlines.
“Kenya Airways is certain to benefit from the expertise and services of all SkyTeam carriers, as well as from greater global recognition and expanded global reach. We will also be able to bring more travelers from more destinations into and out of Africa, ” Kenya Airways Managing Director Titus Naikuni said in Nairobi.
SkyTeam is the global airline alliance partnering ten members, including Aeromexico, Aeroflot, Air France, Alitalia, Continental Airlines, CSA Czech Airlines, Delta Air Lines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Korean Air and Northwest Airlines.
Passengers on Kenya Airways will adopt the Frequent Flyer program of one of the partner airlines, acquire lounge privileges for Business & First Class passengers and enjoy Code Share reciprocity, which gives access to many more destinations.
With a fleet of 23 aircraft and service to 2.5 million passengers annually to 38 destinations in 30 different countries, Kenya Airways flies to cities across Africa, as well as Amsterdam, Paris and London and select destinations in Asia.
