Cyclist Helps Raise Funds for Braille Machine
MALAYSIAN track cyclist Josiah Ng recently joined forces with 500 Fedex Express (FedEx) customers and employees in organising a charity cyclethon to raise funds for the purchase of a Braille embosser for the Braille Publishing Unit (BPU) of the Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB).
The event, which was held at the Palace of the Golden Horses in Seri Kembangan, Selangor, is part of FedEx’s `Cycle of Life’ programme.
“We are proud of the support from our employees and customers for the `Cycle of Life’ event. Through our various community activities, we hope to promote employee volunteerism and raise community consciousness of the needs and capabilities of the less fortunate,” said FedEx Express Malaysia and Brunei managing director K. Don Premaseri.
“The association works to empower persons with visual impairment by providing them with services and opportunities for greater participation and integration into society and the prevention of blindness. FedEx’s generosity will boost our efforts in helping rebuild lives,” said MAB president Professor Datuk Dr Ismail Md Salleh.
The Braille embosser will enable the printing of Braille text books and other literature for 850 visually impaired children in 33 schools in Malaysia.
