Albertsons Discounts Groceries for Closings
By Amarillo Globe-News, Texas
Feb. 8–Two Albertsons stores scheduled to close in March are selling off food and general merchandise at discounted prices.
“We’re still getting in fresh meats, produce, dairy and some bread and chips,” Steve Stockton, manager of the store at 716 Interstate 40, said. “But mostly we’re trying to get rid of our groceries.”
Discounts at his store and the Albertsons at 4215 S.W. 45th Ave. range from 5 percent for meat up to 60 percent on greeting cards. Most canned goods and other staples are 30 percent off.
“It’s a staggered liquidation,” Albertsons spokeswoman Jennifer Vroman said. “For most items, there will be a schedule of discounts, depending on the item and the quantity.”
Vroman said milk, ground beef and other basics will be delivered until the final day.
The two Amarillo supermarkets will close March 11. Only one Amarillo Albertsons, located at 2220 S. Bell St., will remain open.
“We are working to find new tenants for both buildings,” Vroman said.
At that time, fixtures in the buildings will be marketed with the sales.
