M-P.A.C.T. Security Completes First Responder Training Pilot Program in Maine

Posted on: Friday, 9 February 2007, 12:00 CST

WASHINGTON, Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Global maritime security specialists M- P.A.C.T. (Maritime Protection Auditing Consulting Training), working with the Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) has successfully finished its initial first responder training program in the state of Maine. The one of a kind, cutting edge program, requiring 15 hours over two days, took place in Castine, ME and covered level one maritime security domain awareness. The program specifically addressed United States Coast Guard (USCG) prescribed security measures for ports and port personnel and meets the criteria of the USCG directive originally entitled, Maritime Security for Military Security and Law Enforcement Personnel (MSLEP).

"With our 3,500 miles of coastline, it's vital that we have well-trained professionals to guard our safety and security," said Governor Baldacci while addressing the course participants. "Maine is safer and our officials better prepared because of this partnership between the state, Maine Maritime Academy, M-P.A.C.T., and you, our first responders."

The organizers of the program foresee the pilot program as serving immediate regional needs while offering Maine a model for other states to follow. The course participants were chosen from a pool of predictable first responders to potential maritime security incidents in the deep water ports throughout Maine. Participants who successfully completed the course received the relevant USCG approved course certificate and were awarded 1.5 continuing education units.

"We are thrilled to be working with great partners like the Maine Maritime Academy and the State of Maine in training our country's most important line of defense, the first responders," said Daniel P. Walsh, President and CEO of M-P.A.C.T. "We've worked to hard to make sure our courses meet the requirements of the Maritime Administration (MARAD) and make sure that first responders are aware of potential issues and have the needed knowledge to react efficiently."

M-P.A.C.T. represents a unique diversity of backgrounds and experience in maritime security and training. M-P.A.C.T. is fluent in understanding how the National Response Plan (NRP), the National Incident Management System (NIMS), the Ship and Port Security Code (ISPS) and the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 (MTSA) all fit together to form the mosaic that this country and others use to establish a more secure maritime domain.
