Feb. 9–From puzzles and riddles to board games and sports, games are a part of everyone’s life.
The Burlington Artists League is taking the next month and turning games into art. Its “Games” exhibit began Thursday and continues through March 5 at the Burlington Artists League Gallery in the Burlington Manufacturers Outlet Center, 2399-B Corporation Parkway, Burlington.
“It’s about different games that kids and adults play. It’s a small show right now. There could be more coming in through the month. With little shows we call them to come in at any time,” vice president Lois Cain said.
BAL veterans Frank Dalimonte, Mary Ellen Crumpton and Ray Cheek, along with Brien Carrigan and Nancy Diciolla, artists new to the gallery, have a variety of artwork on display for the show.
“There are some really nice pieces in the show. (Nancy) does a mixed media presenta tion of digital photography and enhancements. There are some paintings. There is one work that has all the games in it, it’s a little like a colored pencil sketch,” Cain said.
The artwork includes a vari ety of games from jacks to Monopoly.
“The new work and the old work are blended together, (and) when you throw in new work, it brings new life to the old work,” she said.
Cain said the recent “Black and White” show was a big suc cess for the gallery.
“The gallery looks really nice right now. These shows are a challenge to the artists and it does make a difference what the topic is,” Cain said.
Burlington Artists League Gallery is open noon to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. For more informa tion on the gallery or the show, call (336) 226-7919.
Annual membership is $25 and it is $6 to rent space to hang artwork.
Members of the league volunteer to run the gallery.
