By Caleb Heeringa, The Bellingham Herald, Wash.
Feb. 14–A Chevy Astro van struck a parked car on Lummi Shore Road Monday night, setting off a chain reaction of crashes and injuring three people, according to Washington State Patrol.
The 17-year-old driver and his two passengers, Bellingham residents Michael Martin, 18, and Gerritt Jefferson, 20, were transported to St. Joseph Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
The driver was charged with vehicular assault. The Bellingham Herald does not print the names of juveniles charged with minor crimes.
According to State Patrol, the van was traveling southeast on Lummi Shore Road just after 8 p.m. when it hit an unoccupied Plymouth Voyager parked on the shoulder. The Voyager struck an unoccupied Ford pickup, which then hit another parked and empty Ford truck.
