MANILA, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) — At least nine people including two children were killed and six others injured in a road accident in southern Philippines at dawn Thursday, local media reported.

The victims were aboard a 10-wheeler truck transporting corn from South Upi town in Cotabato city when the driver lost control of the vehicle on Quezon Avenue around 4 a.m. local time, said a report by Inquirer news network.

The victims were thrown to the ground along with the truck’s cargo, the report said.

The lack of public transportation in many parts of the Philippines forces people especially in the countryside to hitch on cargo trucks.
