Thailand Goal: Retrieve Its Satellite Concession BRIEFING:BANGKOK
The Thai government appointed by the military will study ways to retrieve a satellite concession sold last year to a Singapore government investment company, the Thai communications minister said Sunday.
The move could further rattle the confidence of foreign investors who already face the prospect of reducing their stakes in hundreds of companies as part of a revision of the Thai laws regarding ownership by foreigners. The communications minister, Sitthichai Pookaiyaudom, did not offer any details about how Thailand would reclaim the concessions to operate the satellites, which were sold in a private deal by the family of Thaksin Shinawatra, the prime minister ousted in a coup in September.
