Scania to Deliver 53 Buses to Private City Bus Operator in Poland
Posted on: Monday, 19 February 2007, 09:00 CST
Scania (STO:SCVA) (STO:SCVB) will deliver 53 OmniCity low floor buses to PKS Grodzisk Mazowiecki, an independent company providing public transport service in Warsaw. The deal includes a 10-year contract for parts delivery, as well as training of drivers and service technicians. The buses will be produced at Scania's Polish plant in Slupsk.
Scania is entering the Warsaw market after city authorities decided to privatise public transport and invited independent transport operators to participate in tenders.
"By 2010, up to 50 percent of Warsaw's public transport services will be provided by private operators and the city transport system will require 400 additional new buses. So there is a huge potential for us in the Polish public transport market," says Scania Polska's Managing Director Thomas Bertilsson.
Scania won the contract by offering city buses of the highest quality and reliability as well as the lowest operational cost.
This is the first city bus order by a private company operating in the competitive and prestigious Warsaw market. Scania city buses, both new and used, are already well-known by passengers in several Polish cities, such as Krakow, Slupsk and Olsztyn.
The buses for Warsaw will be delivered during 2007.
