Qatar Airways to open flight to Lagos
KUWAIT CITY, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) — Qatar Airways (QA) has announced that it would operate flight course to Nigeria’s commercial and business capital Lagos as of March 1, Doha-based daily “the Peninsula” reported on Tuesday.
It will operate three flights a week between Doha and Lagos using Airbus A330 aircraft in a two-class configuration of Business and Economy, “the Peninsula” quoted a news release from QA as saying.
Qatar Airways’ CEO Akbar al Baker expressed a hope that there would be “a high level of business” on the route, as well as from its key feeder markets of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states.
He added that the new flight to Lagos, a vitally important commercial and business center in Africa, would reinforce the airline’s strategy to serve key cities around the world.
“We launched flights to Nairobi at the end of 2005, recently began services to Dar es Salaam and are now planning our newest route of Lagos on March 1,” the CEO was quoted as saying.
With the addition of Lagos, Qatar Airways will complete a wider African network covering the entire continent, from Casablanca in the west and Cairo in the north to Nairobi in the east and Cape Town in the south, according to the report.
The Doha-based Qatar Airways, a fast growing airline, flies to 71 destinations worldwide. It carried 6.3 million passengers during 2005-2006 financial year.
