Research and Markets: Speculation Linking Second-Tier Brewers Continued In 2006, According to The Euromonitor International 2007 Industry Review From Just-Drinks

Posted on: Thursday, 1 March 2007, 12:00 CST

Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c51322) has announced the addition of The Euromonitor International 2007 Industry review from just-drinks - Management briefing to their offering.

This month's management briefing is Euromonitor's predictions for the drinks industry in 2007. The review is split into four categories: beer, wine, spirits and soft drinks. You can expect to discover what is expected from the major companies in terms of how they operate, new product developments and trends, the markets that hold the most potential, who is set to lead the market, and the brands that will dominate your sector. An introduction from just-drinks' editorial team sums up what you can expect from 2007, and what to look out for.

Extract from Introduction:

And so, with another year over and a new one just begun, just-drinks has teamed up once more with Euromonitor International to take a look at how 2007 is shaping up. After as lively a year as 2006, the horizon looks busy -- again. So, what can we expect to make the news in 2007?

Last year's major beer news was the announcement that InBev is teaming up with Anheuser-Busch in the US. The distribution deal is a strong indicator that the big boys aren't afraid to bunk up together when the outcome is mutually beneficial. Could this be a sign of things to come this year?

Speculation linking the second-tier brewers, such as Carlsberg and Scottish & Newcastle, continued in 2006, and there's every possibility that 2007 could be the year that some of the smaller brewers get together to gain promotion to the premier league.

On the geographical front, all eyes in the beer industry are likely to again be on China, the world's largest beer market by volume. However, it would be worth keeping a close eye on India and South America as brewers look for new profit streams away from the mature markets of Europe and North America.

In the spirits category, this year could finally see the end of the long-running Havana Club saga. Can Bacardi and Pernod Ricard come to an agreement over the name, and if so, who will emerge victorious from this battle?

Rémy Cointreau, meanwhile, has a good two years to make itself look beautiful if, as widely expected, the French company puts itself up for sale once it pulls out of the Maxxium distribution venture. Remy is not due to leave Maxxium until March 2009, but this year could see the company spruce itself up nicely.

The sale of V&S also looks to be one of the major talking points of 2007. The arrival of a new government in Sweden last year signalled the end of state-control for the owner of Absolut vodka. Although no date has been set for the sale, you can be sure that all the major spirits producers will be sniffing round Scandinavia in 2007.
