MHI Wins Thermal Power, Desalination Plant Order in Saudi Arabia

Tokyo, March 1 (Jiji Press)–Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. of Japan said Thursday it has received an full-turnkey order for a heavy crude oil-fired thermal power generation and desalination plant in Saudi Arabia.

The company is set to start building the plant in Shuqaiq in the country’s southwest in June. The power unit has capacity of 1,020 megawatts, while the desalination facility can produce 216,000 cubic meters of drinking water per day.

The company has received the 1.9-billion-dollar order from Shuqaiq Water and Electricity Company, a local power and water supplier partly owned by Japanese trading house Mitsubishi Corp. .

Japan’s Mitsubishi Electric Corp. will join the project by providing power generators.END
