MCLEAN, Va., March 7, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Flight Explorer (FE), a global flight tracking and IT solutions provider to the aviation community, today announced the appointment of Mike Wambsganss as chief scientist. In this new role, Mr. Wambsganss will be responsible for the integration of the FAA's Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) tools into the Flight Explorer Professional(tm) Aircraft Situational Display (ASD) system and will also assist in developing FE's strategic vision.
"We are excited to have Mike join the Flight Explorer team," said Flight Explorer CEO Jim Kelly. "Mike's experience and leadership in the CDM arena will be a great asset as Flight Explorer significantly expands our industry-leading ASD's operational decision-support capabilities by integrating and simplifying the use of CDM tools."
Wambsganss, a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, is an operations research analyst with over 30 years' experience in military and civil aviation. He is known in the civil aviation field principally for his work while at Metron Aviation, Inc., where he served as the Chief Executive Officer until July 2006. Wambsganss is among the original founders of CDM, having personally developed many of the original concepts that formed its foundation and has continued to be a major creative force in the development and refinement of the CDM concept.
"The Flight Explorer ASD has become a cornerstone of a carrier's dispatch operation," said Wambsganss. "By integrating and simplifying the use of CDM tools, Flight Explorer can soon serve as the single portal into the NAS (National Aerospace System) that will deliver to the commercial and general aviation community major improvements in the efficiency, performance and safety of their operations. This initiative will also significantly increase the level of participation and expand membership into CDM to include previously unrepresented operators -- thereby enhancing the overall value of CDM for each of its member participants."
CDM is a joint government/industry initiative aimed at improving air traffic management through increased information exchange among various parties in the aviation community and improving automated decision support tools. More information on the CDM program can be found at http://cdm.fly.faa.gov/whatscdm.html.
