DP World Orders Kalmar Terminal Tractors for Jebel Ali Port

DP World has ordered 84 Kalmar PT122 terminal tractors, due for delivery summer 2007, to the new Terminal 2 (T2) expansion phase at Jebel Ali Port.

The new PT122 terminal tractors on order from Kalmar Industries, the world’s largest provider of terminal tractors, will be engineered as evolutionary versions of the previously supplied units currently working at Jebel Ali Terminal 1.

This model is a container yard tractor and comes equipped with an EU Stage 3A/Tier III engine. The PT122 units will feature a specially designed fifth wheel construction, a larger A/C capacity and a unique driver’s seat configuration.

Situated 25 kilometers south of Dubai, Jebel Ali is the largest duty free port in the Middle East. T2 operations are expected to commence in 2007 and expand the port’s capacity by 5 million TEUs. In 2006, Jebel Ali Port handled 8.9 million TEUs, up from 7.7 million the previous year.
