The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority has named a new airports director to oversee the operations at Toledo Express Airport and Metcalf Field.

Eric J. Frankl was hired in October as the assistant airports director until his recent promotion to director. He will be responsible for the daily operations of the city’s two airports. Frankl brings with him 17 years of management experience within the airport industry.

Frankl replaces Paul Toth, Jr., who served as the Port Authority’s airports director since 2000. Toth was promoted to vice president of technical and financing services and has relocated to the Port Authority’s downtown office.

According to Port Authority president, James H. Hartung, Frankl possesses the positive leadership skills needed in the industry. “Eric’s experience and vision complement the team that is in place. With Paul Toth remaining with the Port Authority, we will maintain the historic perspective while we move ahead on passenger and freight developments for the future,” Hartung stated.

Frankl spent four and a half years as the executive director for Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport in Springfield, Illinois. He was responsible for the overall financial performance, operation, and administration of the airport. Prior to his employment at the Springfield airport, Frankl was the director of operations at Fort Wayne International Airport in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He is a 1986 graduate of Bowling Green State University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Aerotechnology. He received his professional accreditation that same year from the American Association of Airport Executives and served as president of its Great Lakes chapter in 2004 and 2005.

Frankl served as a member of the Ohio Air National Guard for nine years.
