New Station2Station Guide Shows Off the Best of Downtown Detroit

Posted on: Wednesday, 14 March 2007, 15:00 CDT

DETROIT, March 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Detroit People Mover (DPM) wants you to ride its trains, for sure. But it also wants you to get off the trains and explore all that's happening in Downtown Detroit.

A brand new 20-page, saddle-stitched guide to Downtown Detroit, aptly entitled "Go! See! Shop! Eat!" (GSSE) has been published by The Detroit Transportation Corporation (DTC), owner and operator of The Detroit People Mover. This Station2Station Guide replaces the older 8-page fold-out version that was most recently published right before Super Bowl XL in early 2006.

Divided into listings under the 13 People Mover station headings, the guide features more than 400 businesses, including, restaurants, clubs, bars, attractions, retailers and service firms located within a short one or two block walk from the People Mover stations. A new Downtown map spans the centerfold and shows station locations and sites of new construction in progress, such as the MGM Grand and Greektown casinos and hotels, the Rosa Parks Transit Center and the Book Cadillac Hotel and Residences. Recently expanded hours of service are also highlighted.

"We wanted to show Downtown visitors, workers and residents that there is a tremendous variety of businesses to discover in the Central Business District that we serve," said DPM General Manager, Barbara Hansen. "Downtown Detroit is growing very rapidly, and more new businesses have been started since Super Bowl XL than during the previous ten years combined. Existing businesses that have been down here for many years are thriving as well. We are grateful to GMAC Insurance for helping to underwrite this exciting new publication."

The People Mover, which enjoyed a 28% increase in ridership from 2005 to 2006, is on track to top 2,000,000 riders again this year. With its 20th Anniversary celebration plans in full tilt, scheduled for this summer, DTC is riding on increased patronage of Downtown businesses to help make 2007 another banner year for The People Mover.

The new "Go! See! Shop! Eat!" booklets are available free of charge on all DPM vehicles, in hotels, tourist information centers, on the DPM website http://www.thepeoplemover.com/, or by calling the People Mover offices during regular business hours at 313-224-2160.
