Showa Denko, 3 Others to Form Alumina Plant JV in Indonesia
Tokyo, March 14 (Jiji Press)–Showa Denko K.K. and Marubeni Corp. said Wednesday they will form a joint venture in April with an Indonesian mining firm and a Singaporean investment company for a feasibility study on building an alumina plant in Indonesia.
The Jakarta-based new company, called PT Indonesia Chemical Alumina and capitalized at 27.3 billion rupiah, will be owned 49 pct by PT Antam Tbk of Indonesia, 30 pct by Showa Denko, 15 pct by Straits Trading Amalgamated Resources Private Ltd., known as STAR, of Singapore, and the remaining 6 pct by Marubeni.
Following the feasibility study, the four firms will decide whether to build the plant for making integrated chemical-grade alumina products from bauxite ore in the Tayan district of West Kalimantan.
If they decide to go ahead, the four firms will use the JV as the base for the construction project. The plant is seen having an annual output of 300,000 tons.END
