Strive to Remain at the Top

I CONGRATULATE Malaysia Airports Berhad for KLIA’s win as the best airport in the world in the 15 million-25 million passenger category.

I have always believed and maintained that we have one of the best and most comfortable airports in the world compared with the many other international airports.

I have seen bags broken before my very eyes on the luggage carousel at a First World airport. And what is even more amazing is no one even bothered to rescue the poor bags. Here, at KLIA, we have people manning the carousel to ensure that the bags are in good shape.

To the many detractors of our airport, I say try travelling for 14 straight hours and discovering there is no place to sit in the departure lounge to wait for the continuing flight, which will take another 12 hours. Or try to fly for another 14 hours and be placed in a stifling and hot departure lounge, where the only odour available is that of other passengers.

To Malaysia Airports Berhad, KLIA and others that played a contributory role, I say: Do not rest on your laurels and do not choose who you want to be nice to. The thing to do is to go on improving. The most difficult thing to do is staying at the top.
