March 20 Community Open House and Complimentary Wind Farm Tours to Showcase Proposed Dillon Wind Project

PPM Energy will host an open house and complimentary wind farm tours for the general public to learn more about the proposed Dillon Wind Project and general wind information on March 20 from 1:00 -- 7:00 p.m. at 62950 20th Avenue, North Palm Springs (west of Indian Avenue).

115 kindergarten and fifth grade students from Cahuilla Elementary School will be participating in the event from 12:50 -- 2:00 p.m. Students will display their "Wind Energy Art Mural," as well as colorful drawings and stories about wind energy, hand-made paper pinwheels and two two-foot models of a wind turbine. Cahuilla Elementary School teacher Katie Burd said, "The children became interested in wind energy after we taught them about how wind is a special part of living in the Coachella Valley, and PPM Energy is serving as our community partner to make this a hands-on lesson by providing our students with an opportunity to see and touch the wind turbines up close."

"Students never forget these special hands-on learning experiences," said Burd. "They go from the classroom, learning about how wind energy works, to actually standing inside a wind turbine and displaying their models of turbines at a public open house!"

Everyone is invited to drop by to learn about wind energy from industry experts and view artwork and wind turbines created by Palm Springs area school children. Children also can participate in the "Kids Corner" and take home a fun coloring page. The public also will have an opportunity to take a tour inside a turbine.

In addition, information about the proposed Dillon Wind Project will be available and the community will have opportunities to express opinions about the project that will be shared with officials of Riverside County.

The proposed project includes 45 wind turbines on three sites, two of which formerly housed turbines. The properties are surrounded by other windmills in the County of Riverside and the City of Palm Springs, north of Interstate 10, east of Highway 62, and west of Indian Avenue.

The project would feature technologically advanced turbines, generate zero emissions, will produce very little noise, and provide enough clean, renewable energy to power 13,500 homes each year.

"This project will benefit our community, and we are excited to speak with the public at the open house about their comments and ideas," said Andy Linehan, PPM Energy's Director of Land Acquisitions.

"This free open house and wind farm tour is an excellent opportunity for the public to learn about wind energy," continued Linehan. "Whether you're an adult or child, it is exciting to go inside a wind turbine and see up close how they work."

The open house will be held from 1:00 -- 7:00 p.m. with tours departing at 1:30, 3:30, and 5:30 p.m. Space on the tour buses is limited, so reservations will be taken in advance via the information hotline at 866-753-5577, email at wind@communityspeakup.com and on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the event.
