Boston Bruins Join With Verizon Wireless To Collect Wireless Phones For Domestic Violence Survivors

BOSTON, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless is partnering with the Boston Bruins to collect no-longer-used wireless phones for the company's HopeLine(R) phone recycling program in support of regional domestic violence prevention and awareness programs.

Wireless phones will be collected on Thursday, March 29, 2007 prior to the Boston Bruins game at the T.D. Banknorth Garden.

"We are thrilled that the Boston Bruins are partnering with us again to collect no-longer-used wireless phones to provide survivors with support to begin the life rebuilding process."

The Verizon Wireless HopeLine program collects no-longer-used wireless phones, batteries and accessories in any condition from any wireless service provider at Communications Stores nationwide. Phones that can be refurbished are sold for reuse and those without value are disposed of in an environmentally friendly way. Proceeds from the HopeLine program are used to provide wireless phones, airtime and cash grants to local shelters and non- profit organizations that focus on domestic violence prevention and awareness.

Throughout 2006, wireless customers in New England donated over 60,000 no- longer-used wireless phones to Verizon Wireless' HopeLine phone recycling program to support domestic violence prevention and awareness programs. As a result of these donations, more than $80,000, and 500 wireless phones, with airtime and other features were donated to 50 local agencies throughout New England.

In addition, Verizon Wireless will make a donation to Casa Myrna Vazquez, a Boston-based, multicultural organization dedicated to ending domestic violence in the lives of women and children through advocacy, prevention and intervention programs during the Bruins game on March 29th.
