SW Dade Train Derailment Prompts Detours
By The Miami Herald
Mar. 23–A train carrying gravel derailed late Thursday in Southwest Miami-Dade, creating a big mess that prompted a road closure throughout Friday morning’s rush hour.
The derailment happened about 10 p.m. at Southwest 70th Avenue and 12th Street.
At least three train cars toppled off of the rail but were uprighted as of daybreak.
Southwest 12th Street is closed in both directions as crews clean up the spilled gravel.
Motorists can take Tamiami Trail or Flagler Street as an alternate.
