FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - The pilot of a Canadian flight carrying more than 220 passengers reported fumes in the cockpit Monday and made an unexpected landing at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, officials said. No one was injured.
Skyservice spokesman Sandy Buik called the incident "routine" and said the flight was on its way to Costa Rica from Toronto. She said there was no smoke in the cockpit.
Airport spokesman Gregory Meyer said the pilot requested to land when Skyservice flight 5088 was about 40 kilometres away from Fort Lauderdale.
"In an abundance of caution, he called it in - as he's required to - and asked for priority landing clearance, which he got and landed on our runway," Meyer said.
Meyer said the 221 people aboard the flight got off the plane at an airport terminal.
Buik said she wasn't sure how long the flight will be delayed.
Skyservice is based in Ontario and operates flights to Canada, the United States, Caribbean, Mexico and Europe, according to its website.
