Mar. 26–A man was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in Chapman, Neb., two blocks from where his car struck a vehicle containing five youths, the Merrick County Sheriff’s Office said.

Chapman is about 12 miles northeast of Grand Island.

Investigators said Thomas E. Cunningham, 34, of Silver Creek, Neb., was driving a Cadillac Deville east on U.S. Highway 30 when he crossed the center line, striking a Chevrolet Suburban. The driver of the Suburban, a teen from St. Paul, Neb., and the four juvenile passengers, were not injured.

After the collision, Cunningham continued driving east about two blocks, then parked on the south shoulder of the road, the Sheriff’s Office said. A Merrick County deputy arrived and found Cunningham dead of a gunshot wound.
